The Strategic Outreach & Training team equips LGBTQ+ people and allies from all walks of life with the knowledge and skills to boldly advocate for positive change in their communities. Through in-person and virtual training and a host of other resources, we empower individuals to recognize the value of their own unique stories and to understand how their voices are integral components of HRC’s work to shift the public narrative about LGBTQ+ lives.
There are stories being told about us by people who do not understand us, and powerful stories within each of us that the world needs to hear.
The Strategic Outreach & Training team’s role is to remind individuals that it is our right and responsibility to replace those harmful narratives with authentic stories about our fullness and authenticity.
When we share our individual stories we amplify our collective voice.
Your Story Can Change Hearts & Minds – Facts inform, but stories transform. When people hear real experiences, they see issues in a new light.
Your Story Drives Action – Policymakers and communities listen when we use our voices to bring issues to life. Sharing your truth shapes history.
Your Story Connects Us to One Another – Personal stories create empathy, break down stereotypes, and bring people together across differences.
No One Else Can Tell Your Story – Your story is unique and impactful. Sharing your journey helps others feel seen, supported, and can empower them to do the same.

LGBTQ+ individuals face growing political attacks, legislative threats, and systemic inequities in healthcare, education, and workplaces. Trans and LGBQ people of color face a unique set of challenges based on their experience at the intersection of two marginalized communities in our society.
HRC has engaged with BIPOC communities, trans community members and organizations, HBCU students and staff, LGBTQ+ youth and young adults, and parents of trans children for many years. Through programming and resources focused on leadership development, economic empowerment, HIV prevention, stigma reduction, and public safety, we have helped build capacity within and raise awareness around these key communities.
