Today, the Human Rights Campaign is proud to announce its Partners in Innovative Advocacy for 2017-2018.
These awards are part of HRC Global’s new program that offers year-long capacity building and strategic planning partnerships to selected organizations that are working to improve the lives of LGBTQ communities in their countries. The goal of the program is to help strengthen the equality movement in each partner country through more effective advocacy, campaigning, organizing and outreach. Awardees are competitively selected from HRC’s network of Global Fellows and Global Innovators.
This years’ awardees include the Georgia Democracy Initiative in Tbilisi, Georgia, Colors Rainbow in Yangon, Myanmar, Kyrgyz Indigo in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, and Ovejas Negras in Montevideo, Uruguay. HRC will also continue its program with the Consejo Consultivo LGBTI in Managua, Nicaragua, (in partnership with the National Democratic Institute), and conduct programs with the Taiwan Tongzhi Hotline Association in Taipei, Taiwan, and SPoD in Istanbul, Turkey, on a Municipal Equality Index.
“HRC is honored to work alongside these amazing advocates and allies,” said Ty Cobb, director of HRC Global. “Each of these great organizations has an established track record in their countries of helping to better the lives of their LGBTQ communities. We are excited to have the opportunity to share with them some of our organization’s knowledge, expertise and resources gained over our thirty years of experience and activism in the LGBTQ movement in the United States and around the world. At the same time, we fully expect to learn even more from them as we embark on these longer term programs together.”
Each partnership consists of a series of capacity building and planning workshops delivered in-country by experienced HRC staff or consultations, and specifically tailored to respond to the stated needs of each of the organizational partners. In addition, HRC will offer sustained engagement through conference calls and online consultations between the workshops to offer the organizations guidance with implementation and resourcing of their programs.
