The violent siege of the United States Capitol building that our democracy endured on Wednesday was nothing short of insurrection — all caused by the baseless claims and calls for violence from Donald Trump. He and his cronies attempted to bully, intimidate and terrorize our democracy as members of Congress voted to certify the results of a fair election because Trump did not get his way.
We don’t take this call lightly but he must be held accountable for the destruction he helped incite. He is too much of a risk to our country to let him serve any moment longer.
The facts here are indisputable, as is Trump’s loss in the presidential election. The broken glass, audacious displays of white privilege and spilled blood are of Trump’s own creation. He, again, is showing us in the most extreme of degrees just how unfit he is to be our nation’s president. Like he has before, Trump has proven to be a direct threat to us all and an affront to our very democracy. He needs to be removed from office.
That’s why the Human Rights Campaign is calling for the formal and immediate removal of President Donald Trump from office, whether that be through the invocation of the 25th Amendment or through impeachment and conviction.
