The OPALGA+ Scholarship Fund provides financial support for continuing education of local, Cook County Illinois, LGBTQIA+ students and allies who have demonstrated service and advocacy to the LGBTQIA+ community and/or the larger community. OPALGA+ recognizes that young people in the LGBTQIA+ community face unique challenges in high school, college, and trade school programs. We are committed to providing support for the next generation of activists and leaders who are self-identified members and/or allies of the LGBTQIA+ community from Oak Park and surrounding areas.

onePULSE considers many factors when assessing scholarship applicants, including the applicant’s personal story, financial need or independence, strong academic or self-improvement interest, and proven track record of leadership, community involvement and/or work experience. Preference will be given to applicants who are immediate family members of the 49 victims, as well as all of the survivors of the tragedy and first responders to the event. Family members, survivors and first responders are strongly encouraged to apply.

NOVA Southeastern University College of Psychology - Offered to NOVA psychology students who are committed to doing research and professional work aimed at increasing self-acceptance and community acceptance of gay and lesbian individuals.

In 2013, the scholarship fund was re-launched by ZAMI NOBLA to provide scholarship assistance solely to Black lesbians over the age of 50 living anywhere in the United States attending any technical, undergraduate or graduate school located in the United States.

Recipients must show documented leadership, support or involvement in organizations, activities or issues that promote awareness and acceptance of the LGBT community at NMU.

The scholarship award will provide up to $5,000 in tuition funding to an LGBTQ student who plans a career in journalism and is committed to furthering NLGJA: The Association of LGBTQ Journalists’ mission of fair and accurate coverage of the LGBTQ community.**Career in journalism
