WASHINGTON - Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese made the following statement regarding New Hampshire Gov. John Lynch's statement to The Associated Press today pledging to sign legislation establishing civil unions in New Hampshire. The civil unions bill is slated to go before the New Hampshire Legislature for a vote next week. If the bill is signed by Lynch, New Hampshire would become the fourth state in the union to enact civil unions for same-sex couples.
"On behalf of supporters of equality in New Hampshire and throughout the country, we applaud New Hampshire Governor John Lynch for his commitment today to sign a civil unions bill should it pass the New Hampshire Senate. Governor Lynch got it right when he said that this is an issue of 'conscience, fairness and preventing discrimination.' Granting civil unions to committed same-sex couples will make New Hampshire a fairer and freer state for all its residents."
The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality.
