WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, issued the following statement upon news that a runoff will be held in December to decide the victor in the Louisiana U.S. Senate seat race. David Stacy, HRC’s Government Affairs Director, said:
“Voters in Louisiana will face a clear choice between a candidate who supports equality and fairness and a candidate who does not. Mary Landrieu has stood with LGBT Louisianans since she entered Congress. Her opponent, Bill Cassidy, voted against repealing ‘Don’t Ask Don’t Tell’ and has a 0% rating on HRC’s Congressional Scorecard. Between now and the December 6th runoff, the Human Rights Campaign will be focused on re-electing Mary Landrieu to the U.S. Senate.”
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. HRC envisions a world where LGBT people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
