WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign PAC, the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender civil rights group, today announced that the organization's election website will now feature an option to donate to Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign. HRC endorsed Senator Obama earlier this month. The website also allows visitors to make donations to other HRC-endorsed candidates.

"HRC is proud to throw our full support behind Senator Obama's presidential campaign. Now we encourage HRC members and supporters to do the same," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "Senator Obama has consistently shown that he understands, as we do, that, GLBT rights are civil rights and human rights. By visiting www.hrc.org/candidates, we have an opportunity to support him as he has supported us."

The candidate donation page at www.hrc.org/candidates is one aspect of HRC's "Year to Win" initiative, a nationwide electoral initiative aimed at mobilizing pro-equality voters in the 2008 election season. The HRC Equality 2008 website, www.hrc.org/YearToWin, is a "one-stop shopping" election resource that allows visitors to gauge the political landscape of each state, and access the latest news and information on GLBT issues on the trail.

"I've been consistently impressed by Senator Obama's willingness to speak about GLBT issues in front of diverse audiences. Matters of life and livelihood for GLBT Americans are on the line in this election and after eight years of an anti-gay stranglehold on the presidency, Senator Obama's message of fairness and acceptance is a breath of fresh air," said Solmonese.

Senator Obama supports federal benefits and protections for same-sex couples, a fully-inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act and hate crimes legislation, comprehensive sex education, the repeal of the military's "Don't Ask, Don't Tell" policy, and increased funding for HIV/AIDS. He opposes the federal marriage amendment and bans on adoption by GLBT people. Senator Obama participated in HRC's and Logo's historic presidential forum in 2007, and submitted HRC's presidential questionnaire.

The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
