WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, proudly announced its endorsement of U.S. Representative Angie Craig (MN-02) for U.S. Senate. Throughout her career, Rep. Craig has been a tireless advocate for equality, from fighting to secure passage of the Respect for Marriage Act to standing up for LGBTQ+ families and working to expand access to health care and economic opportunity for all Minnesotans. Rep. Craig has made history time and again as the first openly LGBTQ+ person elected to Congress from Minnesota, the first openly LGBTQ+ mom ever elected to Congress, and most recently the first openly LGBTQ+ grandmother to serve in Congress.
“Angie Craig has never forgotten where she came from and she has never stopped fighting for our community,” said Kelley Robinson, President of the Human Rights Campaign. “From helping pass the Respect for Marriage Act to breaking barriers as the first openly LGBTQ+ mom and grandma in Congress, Angie has shown what it means to lead with courage and conviction. Minnesotans deserve that kind of tireless fighter who will work to ensure everyone has the chance to chase their American Dream. And the Senate needs Angie’s voice — a leader who will never back down on equality, fairness, and dignity for all.”
“The Human Rights Campaign has been a steadfast ally throughout my time in public service, and I’m honored to have their endorsement,” said U.S. Rep. Angie Craig. “Minnesotans deserve a leader who will stand up for every community — no exceptions. I’m proud to stand with the Human Rights Campaign as we continue fighting together for progress, equality and a country where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.”
Rep. Angie Craig’s Record on LGBTQ+ Rights:
Raised by a single mom in a mobile home park, Craig went on to become a reporter, a business leader, and a champion for Minnesota families. Before running for Congress, Craig was a local HRC volunteer. Since being elected to Congress, she has worked across the aisle to lower health care costs, expand mental health access, and strengthen rural communities.
HRC’s Commitment to Minnesota
Equality Voters — including the more than 1 million in Minnesota — are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand.
HRC PAC has made significant investments in Minnesota over the years, working to elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot and to defend hard-won protections from attack. Minnesota has long been a national leader on equality, becoming one of the first states in the country to outlaw discrimination based on sexual orientation in 1993, and later expanding protections to include gender identity. Today, HRC PAC continues to build on this legacy by mobilizing Equality Voters and supporting leaders, like Angie Craig, who are committed to ensuring every Minnesotan can live free from discrimination and with full dignity under the law.
