Human Rights Campaign Honors Black History Month

by Joni Madison

Today, in honor of Black History Month, Human Rights Campaign Interim President Joni Madison issued the following statement:

During Black History Month, we honor the contributions that Black people have made throughout U.S. history while we recommit ourselves to doing the necessary work to protect Black futures, including those of Black LGBTQ+ people. It is also a time when we must recognize that all civil rights movements have the same goal in mind – liberation – and that together we can more readily defeat those forces which threaten to oppress us and benefit from division. This year, in addition to celebration, let us also pledge to develop partnerships and intersectional efforts as a means to finally defeat white supremacy and build a society that truly celebrates and includes us all.
