Human Rights Campaign Congratulates Katie Hobbs on Election as Governor of Arizona

PHOENIX— Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — hailed the victory of HRC-endorsed Katie Hobbs in her bid to become Governor of Arizona.

Human Rights Campaign Arizona State Director Bridget Sharpe released the following statement:

“The Human Rights Campaign congratulates pro-equality, pro-democracy champion Katie Hobbs on her successful bid to be Arizona’s next governor. Governor-Elect Hobbs will be a voice for all Arizonans and will be a crucial ally to LGBTQ+ people in the fight against the growing number of harmful bills designed to strip away the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ Arizonans. With her victory, she has proven that spreading lies, hate and division – the tactics resorted to by her opponent – did not work and will never win. We look forward to fighting alongside Governor-elect Hobbs to advance equality and protect democracy in Arizona.”

HRC’s Commitment to Arizona

HRC worked this year to engage our volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the 1.3 million Equality Voters in Arizona in support of Katie Hobbs and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot. Equality Voters are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.
