by Delphine Luneau

"Voters Know That They Need an Attorney General Who Will Perform Their Duties Responsibly, Respect LGBTQ+ Rights, Protect Democracy, and Defend Abortion Access"

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — congratulated HRC-endorsed candidates Keith Ellison, Aaron Ford, Josh Kaul, Dana Nessel, Kwame Raoul and Phil Weiser in their respective races for state attorney general. Additionally, votes are still being counted in Arizona where Kris Mayes, HRC-endorsed candidate for attorney general, is in a close race.

Human Rights Campaign National Campaign Director Geoff Wetrosky released the following statement:

“These pro-democracy, pro-choice, pro-equality candidates won in their respective states in no small part because the voters know that they need an attorney general who will perform their duties responsibly, respect LGBTQ+ rights, protect democracy, and defend abortion access. As the top legal officials in their states, they play an essential role in ensuring that citizens’ rights are not trampled and that civil rights protections are enforced on an equitable basis.”

HRC’s Commitment to Mobilizing Equality Voters

Equality Voters are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer people. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ+ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
