HRC Releases New Digital Ad in North Carolina: “Clinton & Ross For Equality”

by Stephen Peters

Ad features Presidential candidate Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senate candidate Deborah Ross, proven advocates for LGBTQ equality

WASHINGTON -- Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) civil rights organization, released a new digital ad in North Carolina for Hillary Clinton and U.S. Senate candidate Deborah Ross. With one week until Election Day, this ad will help inform North Carolina voters of Hillary Clinton’s and Deborah Ross’ long records of fighting for equality.

In “Clinton & Ross for Equality,” Deborah Ross talks about her record of standing up for equal rights and protections for all Americans. Ross has fought to repeal the deeply discriminatory HB2 law in North Carolina, which, among its provisions, forces transgender people to use restrooms inconsistent with their gender identity and prevents local communities from passing LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination ordinances: “I’ve been opposed to HB2 since the beginning because it discriminates. The economic devastation of House Bill 2 has been extraordinary.”

The ad also features Hillary Clinton talking about the issues at stake in this election for LGBTQ people  and their families: “We’re going to have an election that is truly going to be about fundamental rights: marriage equality, taking on the continuing discrimination against the LGBT community. We are going to make LGBT rights a campaign issue.”

Watch: “Clinton & Ross for Equality”

“By electing Hillary Clinton and Deborah Ross, North Carolinians will send a clear message that hate and discrimination will not be tolerated,” said HRC President Chad Griffin. “These two pro-equality champions have demonstrated their commitment to advancing LGBTQ rights time and again. Each and every day through Election Day, we are working to turn out the votes of the majority of North Carolinians who know discrimination is not a Tar Heel value.”

“Clinton & Ross for Equality” is part of HRC’s digital campaign targeting pro-equality voters across North Carolina. With control of the Senate potentially hinging on the outcome of the North Carolina Senate race, it is critically important that the more than 255,800 LGBTQ voters and their allies in the state ensure their voices are heard by casting a ballot for Deborah Ross. As the former North Carolina state director for the American Civil Liberties Union, Ross has long worked to ensure equality and respect for all North Carolinians and will bring the same commitment as a U.S. Senator.

The campaign is part of a larger get-out-the-vote effort aimed at mobilizing 10 million LGBTQ voters nationwide, as well as millions of other pro-equality voters.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.

Paid for by the Human Rights Campaign Equality Votes and not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.
