The "Heatherette Hearts HRC" shirt will debut as a gift to guests in the first three rows of the Heatherette Fashion Show on Feb. 6 during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in New York. On the West Coast, the shirt will be featured in the gift bag available to performers and presenters at the 49th Annual Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles on Feb. 11.
"With this shirt, Heatherette brings their typical flair and fun to our message of equality," said Joe Solmonese, president of the Human Rights Campaign. "Now people can show their support of equal rights while wearing one of the hottest labels on the market."
Fashion star Marc Jacobs designed an exclusive "Marc Jacobs Hearts HRC" shirt for the Human Rights Campaign last year that remains available online and in each HRC Action Center & Store.
"Traver and I obviously would not be where we are today without the inspiration and support of our gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender friends and customers," said Heatherette designer Richie Rich. "Heatherette has always been about equality - we've never geared our collection to one demographic. We see the world in Kaleidoscope vision and design our collection to represent that ideal. Collaborating on this T-shirt with the Human Rights Campaign just felt like the most natural and logical thing to do to show our support for full equality for all people."
"When Richie and I were sitting on our living room floor making some of our very first pieces we were tossing out mottos and the one that stuck was: 'Heatheretteテ for boys, girls and everyone in between!'" added Heatherette co-designer Traver Rains. "We used that for our first couple of trunk shows. REAL people and being true to yourself is rooted in the heart of Heatherette. Working on this collaboration has been so inspiring and will hopefully put a smile on a few faces!"
Heatherette will also be honored with a Visibility Award at the 2007 HRC New York Gala on Feb. 10. For more information or to purchase tickets please visit http://www.hrcnewyork.org/ or contact Josh Meyer at 202/572-8911.
Designers Traver Rains and Richie Rich, both openly gay, started Heatherette as a hobby in 1999 and quickly built the brand into a fashion force with a devoted following among New York club kids style watchers and high-profile celebrities such as Gwen Stefani, Paris Hilton, the Scissor Sisters, Aerosmith, Kelly Osbourne and rappers Foxy Brown and Lil' Kim.
