The Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Belonging (DEIB) department leads the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging strategy across the organization to facilitate building a diverse and inclusive organization, and works to build competencies in diversity, equity, inclusion, and intersectionality – both internally, and within the broader LGBTQ+ community – that advance the organization’s mission to achieve LGBTQ+ liberation for all. More specifically, the DEIB team: ​

  • Is a thought leader for cross-departmental efforts to integrate diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging into everything that HRC does;
  • Helps recruit, retain, and engage staff and volunteers that reflect the diversity of our community, ensuring that processes are equitable;
  • Manages the organization’s Employee Resources Groups, DEI Liaison program, and National Steering Committees, helping to craft an organizational culture of inclusion and belonging
  • Fosters a deeper understanding of the intersectional challenges facing our constituencies in rapidly evolving landscapes through facilitating interactive trainings for both staff and external partners
  • Acts as a key voice within senior organizational leadership and advocates from a DEIB lens

Responsibilities:

  • Provide general support to the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion team in the execution of the work of the department.

  • Convene and support collaboration and design efforts around campaigns, programs, and efforts that advance racial equity, allyship, gender equity and anti-oppression, and/or organizational practices that advance these issues.

  • Manage systems and maintain data to monitor goals and benchmarks. Maintain a dashboard to ensure accountability, tracking, and monitoring of internal staff equity and engagement efforts.

  • Help implement a curriculum for developing staff and volunteer competencies on a range of diversity and equity issues, providing input on relevant performance indicators and evaluations to reflect progress

  • Help prepare and deliver highly engaging/effective in-person and online training, presentations, and discussions on a wide variety of DEI topics for HRC staff, interns, and volunteers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Strong research skills.

  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Interest in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion & Intersectionality.

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team.

Outcomes:

  • Receive education on LGBTQ and civil rights issues

  • Obtain a better understanding of politics, specifically through an intersectional lens.

  • Learn the ins and outs of a non-profit, have spent time attempting to create a microcosm of the world HRC would like to bring about within the organization.

  • Work with the DEI team on the various trainings and modules they deliver to their audiences.
