The Resistance Report provides bi-monthly updates on the latest actions HRC is taking to unite, resist and enlist against the injustices happening to the LGBTQ community on the federal, state and local levels. From our grassroots efforts fighting discriminatory legislation and legislators, to protesting and marching in cities nationwide -- we are fighting everyday to ensure full equality and justice is achieved for everyone, everywhere.

HRC Represented By Lambda Legal & OutServe-SLDN Lawsuit Against Trump’s Trans Military Ban

HRC joined as plaintiffs in a federal lawsuit brought by Lambda Legal and OutServe-SLDN against the White House directive that interferes in Department of Defense personnel policy by pushing forward President Trump’s and Vice President Pence’s transgender military ban.

The harm that this administration is causing to both these courageous Americans and our national security must be stopped. We are proud to be a plaintiff on behalf of our transgender members currently serving or wishing to enlist or commission, but who find their careers and their future under attack - and we thank all of the plaintiffs, plus our attorneys at Lambda Legal and Outserve-SLDN for their leadership in challenging this dangerous directive.

HRC Stands United with Dreamers

This week, the Trump-Pence administration cruelly decided to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. For years, DACA allowed hundreds of thousands of young people who were brought to the U.S. as minors to stay in the country, to continue their studies and to continue making positive contributions to our nation. HRC joined governors, attorneys general and hundreds of elected officials and other civil rights organizations across the country in a letter supporting DACA and Dreamers.

We have seen an outpouring of energy from our members and supporters in the wake of the Trump’s rescission of DACA. In a 24-hour period, more than 13,000 HRC members and supporters completed calls to their Members of Congress asking them to pass legislation protecting Dreamers.

It is estimated that approximately 75,000 of these “Dreamers” are LGBTQ, and HRC has endorsed the 2017 DREAM Act to explicitly authorize the government to stop the deportation of Dreamers.

HRC’s Jordan Dashow Speaks Out Against DeVos Decision to Roll Back Title IX Sexual Assault Protections

HRC expressed grave concern over U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos’s decision to begin a process to rescind 2011 Title IX guidance related to schools' obligations to address sexual harassment, including sexual violence. In an HRC Twitter takeover, campus sexual assault survivor Jordan Dashow, HRC’s policy coordinator, detailed the importance of Title IX guidance to survivors of sexual violence -- including and especially LGBTQ survivors like him.

For the LGBTQ community, which faces disproportionate levels of sexual assault and violence, this decision sends a strong signal that the U.S. Department of Education will not use its full power to protect them from harm.

HRC Celebrates Life of a Leader of the Resistance

The HRC Family mourns the tragic loss of our beloved colleague and friend, Cassidy Karakorn. Over her 17-year career at HRC, Cassidy tirelessly championed civil rights for the LGBTQ community. As Director of Consumer Marketing, Cassidy's eye for fashion and art made a transformative impact on HRC and helped us reach more people than ever before. We loved her and loved working with her. Our hearts go out to Cassidy’s family and many friends who are grieving her loss. In every future effort, we will seek to make Cassidy proud, and will carry her memory with us always.

We are resisting the politics of hate across the nation. Each and every day, HRC and our grassroots supporters are harnessing the full power of our democracy to protect our progress and resist. Check back for our next Resistance Report on HRC’s continued fight for full LGBTQ equality.
