The Resistance Report provides bi-monthly updates on the latest actions HRC is taking to unite, resist and enlist against the injustices happening to the LGBTQ community on the federal, state and local levels. From our grassroots efforts fighting discriminatory legislation and legislators, to protesting and marching in cities nationwide -- we are fighting everyday to ensure full equality and justice is achieved for everyone, everywhere.

HRC Launches the Largest Grassroots Expansion in its History

HRC announced a bold, proactive grassroots expansion with the launch of HRC Rising. Our new movement represents the opening of another front in our fight against Trump-Pence’s hateful agenda and draws on one of the greatest strengths of the organization: its more than three million highly-engaged members, supporters, volunteers and activists in virtually every community coast-to-coast.

House Fails to Pass Anti-Trans Amendment in Defense Bill

Republican Representative Vicky Hartzler (R-MO) introduced an abhorrent anti-transgender amendment to the National Defense Authorization Act. The measure would have banned critical access to transition-related health care for military service members and their families. However, due to HRC’s rapid response, urging our members and supporters to reach out to their representatives, the amendment was swiftly defeated in the House by a vote of 214-209.

Serving you a Daily Dose of the Latest LGBTQ News

This week, HRC premiered its first ever daily LGBTQ video news program, Daily Equality. Hosted by HRC’s Assistant Press Secretary Allison Turner, our new daily digest of LGBTQ-related news from around the globe. HRC and Other LGBTQ Groups Call out Texas Legislature

As the Texas legislature gears up for a 30 day special session next week, HRC, along with 15 other organizations representing diverse voices from across the Lone Star State, denounced in a letter the extreme politics driving their agenda. Among the bills already filed, three target protections for LGBTQ people -- specially, transgender people. HRC has urged its members and supporters to sign up here to stop these dangerous pieces of legislation.

HRC is proud to stand with these local organizations representing reproductive health, immigration, and religious and civil liberties issues.

Fighting for LGBTQ Inclusion in the Last Frontier State

HRC teamed up with Fair Anchorage to stop the repeal of the city’s LGBTQ-inclusive non-discrimination ordinance. If opponents of equality submit 5,700 valid signatures by July 20, their dangerous initiative would appear on the April 2018 ballot in Anchorage. HRC continues to monitor this situation as it developments.

Extinguishing Trans Discrimination in Washington State

Opponents of LGBTQ equality were dealt another defeat for a second year in a row, when a campaign to rollback non-discrimination protections for transgender people failed to turn in enough signatures to qualify for the ballot in Washington State. HRC remains steadfast in its commitment to keep existing non-discrimination laws in place and will continue working with local coalition partners on the ground to ensure that LGBTQ Washingtonians feel safe.

#Unite4TheFight: HRC Joins Forces with Planned Parenthood on Twitter

HRC is closely monitoring the House and Senate’s efforts to repeal the Affordable Care Act (ACA). If Congress is successful in passing a bill for Trump to sign, millions of Americans could lose vital access to health care, including LGBTQ people and millions of women who rely on the ACA for health care. To showcase how intrinsically connected HRC and Planned Parenthood are, we joined forces for a “Digital Day of Action” to highlight how catastrophic ACA repeal would be for the LGBTQ community and the women’s rights movement. HRC President Chad Griffin and Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards took part in a Twitter swap to share messages of unity in the face of persistent attacks on our country’s most vulnerable citizens.

We are resisting the politics of hate across the nation. Each and every day, HRC and our grassroots supporters are harnessing the full power of our democracy to protect our progress and resist. Check back for our next Resistance Report on HRC’s continued fight for full LGBTQ equality.
