New Project Aims to Boost Houston Businesses' Participation in Corporate Equality Index

by HRC Staff

Washington- The Human Rights Campaign Foundation and Out &amp Equal Houston have partnered on "CEI Houston" - a project aimed at increasing participation in the HRC Corporate Equality Index (CEI). Although Houston is one of the nation's top economic centers, many of the area's top employers are not represented in the Index. Of the 29 Fortune 500 businesses headquartered in Houston, only 9 are CEI participants. The CEI Houston project looks to change that by providing diversity and inclusion executives with the programs and resources needed to help companies join the ranks of top Houston employers like Chevron, Continental, Shell, and Waste Management.

Launched in 2002, the HRC CEI has become the only nationally recognized measure lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) workplace equality.

Companies that do participate in the CEI find:

CEI Houston will be comprised of three events, presented by Out & Equal Houston and the HRC Workplace Project:

February 3 - Diversity and inclusion professionals from businesses currently participating in the CEI will be invited join a webinar "Understanding the next generation CEI scoring criteria." To register visit: cc.readytalk.com/r/ht0kiyngtnld

Feb 17 - Companies who do not currently participate in the CEI survey and are interested in learning more are invited to a free webinar "An Introduction to the Corporate Equality Index" on February 17, 2011. To register visit:

Specific date and time for this event is to be determined. For more information visit www.outandequal.org/houston.
