Human Rights Campaign Unveils Equality Rocks T-shirt

by Digitalmedia Intern

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, is unveiling a T-shirt design in celebration of Equality Rocks, a public engagement campaign featuring prominent musicians - both American and international - who support LGBT equality.

By sparking conversations about the power of love, fairness and equality, the campaign aims to drum up support for marriage equality and bring awareness to a new audience of engaged Americans.

“Musicians, artists and performers have often loudly and boldly stood on the right side of history, particularly when it comes to LGBT rights,” said Cassidy Karakorn, Deputy Director for Consumer Marketing. “Now, we are seeing a new generation of artists take their message of equality and support for LGBT rights to the stage. The sea change we’ve seen in just these few short years is truly incredible.”

As an homage to the past, the front of the T-shirt features the original Equality Rocks logo used for HRC’s historic benefit concert in 2000. Featuring music legends George Michael, Melissa Etheridge, K.D. Lang, Garth Brooks and the Pet Shop Boys, the benefit concert, held at RFK Stadium, brought national attention to the fight for LGBT rights. Composed of a variety of musical instruments, HRC’s recent viral red logo boldly stands out on the full back of the T-shirt.

Early supporters of the revitalized campaign include Florence and the Machine, Phoenix, Tegan and Sara, Animal Collective, CSS, Blood Orange and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.

In addition, Brazilian-born New Yorker Musician/DJ Elle Dee serves as the brand ambassador for the campaign.

Constructed of 100 percent fine jersey cotton, the t-shirt is available in unisex sizes S-2XL and will be sold exclusively at HRC Stores in Provincetown, MA; San Francisco, CA; Washington, D.C. and online at shop.hrc.org. Retailing for $25, 100 percent of net proceeds will go toward HRC's fight for LGBT equality.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
