Romney’s Top Fundraiser Doubles as Ruthlessly Anti-Gay Businessman

Washington–  15,000 people are calling on Mitt Romney to fire his National Finance Chair, Frank VanderSloot, for his extensive activities aimed at demonizing lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender Americans. HRC launched the petition last night, and the number of people demanding Romney fire VanderSloot and return the money he’s donated to the campaign are growing by the hour.

“Mitt Romney can no longer get away with saying he opposes discrimination against LGBT Americans while simultaneously working with someone as viciously anti-LGBT as Frank VanderSloot,” said HRC Vice President of Communications Fred Sainz. “This speaks volumes about how Mitt Romney truly feels about LGBT people. He must immediately fire VanderSloot and return the money he’s donated to the campaign.”

Frank VanderSloot has made it his life’s mission to attack LGBT people. He’s donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to causes that spread falsities about LGBT people and seek to strip or roll back rights and protections; he spearheaded a billboard campaign against Idaho Public Television for airing a family documentary he thought promoted “the homosexual lifestyle;” and he even outed a reporter.

HRC’s online action calling for Romney to fire VanderSloot and return his funds can be accessed here. For more information on Romney’s changing positions on issues of LGBT equality, visit www.mittnmatch.com.

The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
