Find a TrainingStories about our lives dare people to see us for who we are: friends, neighbors, and family members. Our stories affect the way others act toward us and how they vote when LGBTQ+ rights and safety are at stake.
We have made tremendous progress since the early days of our movement when being “homosexual” was a psychiatric diagnosis, when coming out at work meant losing your job, when the idea of marrying a same sex partner, living a long life with HIV, or living your truth as a young trans person was a pipedream.
And we did it by telling our stories—changing hearts and minds, and increasing our visibility over the decades to help advance equality in many aspects of life.
We are eager to tell the stories of LGBTQ+ people and their allies who, like you, are impacted by laws and policies such as cuts to federal programs (Medicaid, HIV prevention and treatment, small business support), rollbacks of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs and funding, “don’t say LGBTQ+” policies in K-12 schools, and barriers to essential healthcare for trans youth and adults.
Telling our stories dispels hateful rhetoric, counters the attacks on our rights, and allows others to see the humanity in each of us.
We know that our stories have immense power, and that’s why the Human Rights Campaign is launching a new campaign called One Million Voices — encouraging LGBTQ+ community members and allies to share their unique stories and use their voices and actions to change hearts and minds about LGBTQ+ lives.
