Finding an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Long-Term Care Community

Produced by the HRC Foundation

Moving into a long-term care community is a significant life change and requires someone to consider several factors when deciding where to live.

When the time comes for extra support while aging, everyone deserves to feel welcome and safe accessing long-term care.

View the Long-Term Care Equality Index Guide and accompanying resources to learn how to vet your local long-term care communities for LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

Welcoming policies, practices and culture are all factors which should be considered when trying to find an inclusive and welcoming long-term care facility for LGBTQ+ elders. Learn how to properly screen facilities for these and other factors in a resource created by HRC Foundation and SAGE.

For California Residents

The California Addendum to the Finding an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Long-Term Care Community Consumer Guide was created in partnership with Archstone Foundation. In 2019, SAGE and the Human Rights Campaign Foundation released the guide, Finding an LGBTQ+ Inclusive Long-term Care Community. This addendum reflects over the past three years to increase availability of LGBTQ+ culturally competent and inclusive aging and long-term care services and supports.

This addendum will:

+ Provide you with a list of tips to help assess if service providers and long term care communities regarding LGBTQ+ inclusivity.

+ Provide an overview of SAGE programs supporting older LGBTQ+ people in California.

+ Provide a list of California LGBTQ+ Aging and Health Resource Directories.

The Human Rights Campaign reports on news, events and resources of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation that are of interest to the general public and further our common mission to support the LGBTQ+ community.
