LGBTQ people are under attack in state legislatures. Help us fight back.
“It is Imperative That the Committee Revisit This Issue and Acknowledge the Consequences Bullying Has on the Youth in our Community.”
Washington – The Human Rights Campaign – the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization – responds to the Senate HELP Committee’s failure to address the prevalence of bullying against LGBT students in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act reauthorization bill markup.
“We are disappointed that the Committee did not adopt anti-LGBT bullying amendments that enjoyed bipartisan, majority support,” said HRC President Joe Solmonese. “This major reauthorization bill was the best opportunity the Senate will have in this Congress to address the problem of bullying faced by LGBT students. It is imperative that the Committee revisit this issue and acknowledge the consequences bullying has on the youth in our community.”
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
