New York and New Jersey are on the forefront of fight for marriage equality.
WASHINGTON-The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights group, today announced that New Jersey Governor Jon Corzine and New York State Senate President Malcolm Smith will address guests at the organization's seventh annual Greater New York Gala Dinner. The event, themed "Be, Live, Love, Believe," will be held on Saturday, February 7th at Hilton New York in midtown Manhattan.
"We are honored that Governor Corzine and Senator Smith, both strong supporters of LGBT rights, will join us for this year's Greater New York Gala Dinner," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "New Jersey and New York are critical battleground states for some of the most important issues facing the LGBT community, including marriage equality. I look forward to hearing their remarks and continuing to work in partnership with them to move equality forward."
Along with political speakers, the event will also feature the presentations of awards recognizing outstanding contributions to the pursuit of LGBT equality. Honorees include MSNBC journalist Keith Olbermann, who will accept the Ally for Equality Award, and financial services firm Morgan Stanley, which will receive the Corporate Equality Award.
"The LGBT community owes both Keith Olbermann and Morgan Stanley a debt of gratitude for their work to advance our equality. We are pleased to recognize and thank them," said Solmonese.
The Human Rights Campaign Greater New York Gala Dinner is being chaired by Lori Megown and Bryan Parsons, both members of the HRC Board of Governors and the HRC Greater New York Steering Committee. Parsons is also a member of the HRC Business Council.
