Human Rights Campaign to Honor House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with 2007 National Equality Award
Pelosi Will Also Keynote 11th Annual Dinner
WASHINGTON - Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender advocacy group, announced today that it will present its 2007 National Equality Award to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi at the organization's Eleventh Annual National Dinner in Washington, D.C. on October 6. Speaker Pelosi will also be delivering the dinner's keynote address.
"We could not be more excited about recognizing Speaker Pelosi's efforts on behalf of GLBT Americans by presenting her with the National Equality Award and having her as keynote speaker," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "We are privileged to have such a luminous national figure stand shoulder to shoulder with the Human Rights Campaign and the entire GLBT community in support of equality at our National Dinner. Speaker Pelosi continues to lead our country toward the realization of equality for all Americans and has proven that under her leadership the GLBT community will remain an important part of the American family."
Past keynote speakers at the Human Rights Campaign National Dinner include poet Maya Angelou, NAACP Chair Julian Bond, former President Bill Clinton, former Vice President Al Gore, tennis legend Billie Jean King and director Steven Spielberg.
The National Dinner will be held in the Grand Ballroom of Washington's Convention Center. More than 3,000 are expected to attend the event, which will be chaired by Sarah Booth and Ted Toon.
