Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to Head into Run-Off Election

by Nick Morrow

HRC released the following statement on HRC-endorsed candidates Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock heading into a run-off election against Senators David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler, respectively. These key races could determine the control of the U.S. Senate. The Human Rights Campaign will mobilize its members, supporters and Equality Voters in these elections.

Ossoff and Warnock have committed that should they be elected, both would co-sponsor and vote in favor of the Equality Act, crucial federal legislation that would finally guarantee explicit protections for LGBTQ people under our nation's existing civil rights laws.

“We need pro-equality champions like Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock to help usher in a pro-equality majority in the U.S. Senate,” said Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David. “Both Ossoff and Warnock will prioritize the passage of the Equality Act if elected, and their historic races will be our highest priority in the coming weeks and months. David Perdue and Kelly Loeffler are anti-LGBTQ extremists who will undermine the rights and well-being for all LGBTQ people. We will continue mobilizing voters to help Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock across the finish line to ensure a pro-equality Congress that will fight to pass the Equality Act and enshrine nondiscrimination protections for all LGBTQ people."
