ICYMI: HRC, Pro-Equality Georgians, Organizations Rally at State Capitol for “Liberty and Justice for ALL” Lobby Day

by Jared Todd

ATLANTA — On March 10, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) joined LGBTQ+ Georgians, advocates, and 35 coalition partners at the Georgia State Capitol for Pride to the Capitol 2026, a lobby day and press conference calling on lawmakers to uphold the unfulfilled promise of America: Liberty and Justice for ALL. Among the participating organizations were Georgia Equality, ACLU of Georgia, PFLAG, the Southern Poverty Law Center, and the only LGBTQ+ Pride center in the state, the Savannah Pride Center.

Advocates met directly with legislators throughout the day to discuss the real-life impact of policies affecting LGBTQ+ Georgians and their families. During a press conference on the South Wing Steps of the Capitol, speakers underscored that LGBTQ+ people are not single-issue voters — they are workers, parents, faith leaders, small business owners, and neighbors whose lives intersect across communities.

“Across this country we are seeing coordinated attacks on LGBTQ lives, from access to health care, to our rights to vote. But LGBTQ Georgians are not going anywhere. Because you are and always have been in the DNA of Georgia. We are workers, parents, students, veterans, neighbors, and community leaders whose lives intersect with every part of this state. And the policies debated in this building have real consequences for people’s safety, health, and economic security. That is why today we are not only defending our community — we are advancing solutions that help everyone.” – Jonathan Lovitz, HRC Senior Vice President of Campaigns and Communications

The event was held under the theme “Liberty and Justice for ALL,” emphasizing that the fight for LGBTQ+ equality is inseparable from broader efforts to protect democratic values and ensure that every person can thrive.

Savannah Pride Center Executive Director Michael Bell

“When systems fail us, community becomes the system. When health care leaves gaps, we build bridges. When policies attempt to erase us, we respond not by disappearing, but by caring for each other even more fiercely. Because our lives are valuable. Our bodies are worthy of care. And our communities deserve to thrive.” – Savannah Pride Center Executive Director Michael Bell

State Representative Karla Drenner

“When I began my first term in office, being gay was illegal. Now, we have a Capitol full of our community members. I am proud to be an out member of the LGBTQ+ community.” – State Rep. Karla Drenner
