Human Rights Campaign Urges Congress to Establish Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the Capitol

by HRC Staff

Today, the Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David urged Members of Congress to approve H.R. 3233, the National Commission to Investigate the January 6 Attack on the United States Capitol Complex Act.

Human Rights Campaign President Alphonso David released the following statement:

“The January 6 insurrection at the Capitol was an attempt to undermine the election results and thwart the peaceful transfer of power that is the foundation of our democracy. It is vital that our country has a full and independent investigation of the events of that day to understand the causes of the attack and to prevent similar threats in the future. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell must not stand in the way of efforts to secure our democracy. This commission, modeled after the 9-11 Commission, is the best way to uncover the facts.”
