HRC President Kelley Robinson: “We need Peggy Flanagan in the U.S. Senate, and we’re going to fight with everything we’ve got to send her there.”

MINNEAPOLIS — Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, announced it has endorsed Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan in Minnesota’s U.S. Senate race. Flanagan’s success in the November general election against her opponent is essential to securing a pro-equality majority in the Senate, where she will combat the discriminatory policies and gross government overreach of the Trump administration.

Time and again, Peggy Flanagan has shown up for LGBTQ+ people. From the Minneapolis school board to the Minnesota House to the lieutenant governor’s office, she speaks truth to power and stands with LGBTQ+ Minnesotans so they get a fair shot. We need Peggy Flanagan in the U.S. Senate, and we’re going to fight with everything we’ve got to send her there.

Kelley Robinson, President of the Human Rights Campaign

I’m honored to have the support of the Human Rights Campaign, an organization that has worked tirelessly to promote equality and inclusion and to advance policies that make life better and safer for LGBTQ+ Americans.

At a time when the federal government and states across the country are targeting the LGBTQ+ community, it is more important than ever to stand for what is right and to continue to protect freedom and human rights.

Lt. Gov. Flanagan previously earned the HRC PAC’s endorsement during her 2022 re-election campaign. During their tenure, the Walz-Flanagan administration signed key, targeted pro-LGBTQ+ legislation and executive actions including banning the discredited practice commonly known as “conversion therapy.” Flanagan has pledged to support the Equality Act, landmark LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination legislation, in the U.S. Senate.

Flanagan is facing off against anti-LGBTQ+ former sportscaster and MAGA Republican Michele Tafoya who, on the campaign trail, has:

HRC’s Commitment to Minnesota

Equality Voters — including more than 1.5 million in Minnesota — are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand. And according to new HRC Foundation data, LGBTQ+ adults make up over 12 percent of Minnesota’s population. HRC PAC has made significant investments in Minnesota over the years, working to mobilize those Equality Voters and elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot.
