WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest LGBTQ+ civil rights organization, proudly announced its endorsement of Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-1) for U.S. Senate. Throughout his career, Rep. Pappas has championed equality — from introducing and passing the Equality Act through the House of Representatives to enacting the Respect for Marriage Act into law — while advancing protections for New Hampshire’s LGBTQ+ community. As New Hampshire's first out member of Congress and Co-Chair of the Congressional Equality Caucus, he brings a renewed energy to the fight for equal rights.
“Chris Pappas is a fighter for equality who has never forgotten his roots,” said Kelley Robinson, President of the Human Rights Campaign. “From pushing the Equality Act through the House to helping make the Respect for Marriage Act the law of the land, and breaking barriers as New Hampshire’s first out member of Congress, Chris leads with a passion for an America where everyone can chase their dreams. At a time when equality and freedom are under assault, New Hampshire and the nation deserve leaders with that kind of passion. Chris fights every day for every Granite Stater to have what they need to thrive, and that’s exactly why the Senate needs his voice to represent the voiceless.”
“It’s an honor to have the endorsement of the Human Rights Campaign, which has been at the forefront of the fight for LGBTQ+ equality,” said Congressman Chris Pappas. “No one should be discriminated against because of who they are or whom they love, and I will always stand up for the rights and freedoms of LGBTQ+ individuals in New Hampshire and across the country.”
Rep. Chris Pappas’s Record on LGBTQ+ Rights:
Before Congress, Chris helped run his family’s 108-year-old Manchester restaurant, serving generations of Granite Staters. A Greek immigrant descendant and Harvard graduate, he entered politics to fix a system failing everyday people. He made history as New Hampshire’s first out member of Congress and built a reputation bridging divides.
HRC’s Commitment to New Hampshire
Equality Voters — including the more than 360,000 in New Hampshire — are a powerful and diverse voting bloc united by support for LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, and they recognize and trust the HRC brand.
HRC PAC has made significant investments in New Hampshire over the years, working to elect pro-equality champions up and down the ballot and defending hard-won protections like the passage of HB148 which protects individuals from discrimination based on gender identity. Today, HRC PAC continues to build on this legacy by mobilizing Equality Voters and supporting leaders, like Chris Pappas, who are committed to ensuring every Granite Stater can live free from discrimination and with full dignity under the law.
