WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — proudly announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey. As a longtime ally and dedicated public servant, Rep. Sherrill has proven herself a staunch advocate for equality and a reliable partner in the fight for advancing LGBTQ+ rights. In the face of rising attacks on the LGBTQ+ community across the country, Sherrill has never wavered in her commitment to justice, fairness, and dignity for all.
Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson released the following statement:
“New Jersey deserves a governor who not only believes in equality but who has the courage to fight for it. Mikie Sherrill is that leader. As a member of Congress, she has stood with our community time and again, from championing the Equality Act and safeguarding marriage equality to speaking out against anti-LGBTQ+ hate. At a time when too many politicians are using LGBTQ+ people as political pawns, Mikie has shown what it means to lead with integrity, compassion, and action. We are proud to endorse her for governor and mobilize our members across the Garden State to help elect a true pro-equality champion.”
Throughout her time in Congress, Mikie Sherrill has consistently fought to advance LGBTQ+ rights. Her record includes:
HRC’s Commitment to New Jersey
Equality Voters — including the nearly two million across New Jersey — are a powerful and growing voting bloc. These voters are younger, more diverse, and united by the belief that everyone deserves equal treatment under the law, no matter who they are or whom they love. They recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they turn out in force when equality is on the ballot.
The Human Rights Campaign PAC is committed to organizing, mobilizing, and electing pro-equality leaders at every level of government. From the halls of Congress to the governor’s mansion in Trenton, we are building the power to protect our rights, defend our families, and ensure that every LGBTQ+ person can live openly and safely in their communities.
