Human Rights Campaign PAC Endorses Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — proudly announced its endorsement of Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill for Governor of New Jersey. As a longtime ally and dedicated public servant, Rep. Sherrill has proven herself a staunch advocate for equality and a reliable partner in the fight for advancing LGBTQ+ rights. In the face of rising attacks on the LGBTQ+ community across the country, Sherrill has never wavered in her commitment to justice, fairness, and dignity for all.

Human Rights Campaign President Kelley Robinson released the following statement:

“New Jersey deserves a governor who not only believes in equality but who has the courage to fight for it. Mikie Sherrill is that leader. As a member of Congress, she has stood with our community time and again, from championing the Equality Act and safeguarding marriage equality to speaking out against anti-LGBTQ+ hate. At a time when too many politicians are using LGBTQ+ people as political pawns, Mikie has shown what it means to lead with integrity, compassion, and action. We are proud to endorse her for governor and mobilize our members across the Garden State to help elect a true pro-equality champion.”

Throughout her time in Congress, Mikie Sherrill has consistently fought to advance LGBTQ+ rights. Her record includes:

  • Co-sponsoring and voting for the Equality Act to ensure full federal nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ Americans.
  • Voting to safeguard marriage equality through the Respect for Marriage Act.
  • Standing against anti-trans legislation and efforts to target LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Championing LGBTQ+ military personnel and veterans, including efforts to restore honor to those discharged based on sexual orientation.
  • Supporting legislation to end conversion therapy and expand access to HIV prevention and affirming healthcare.
  • Actively engaging with New Jersey’s LGBTQ+ community through town halls, Pride celebrations, and local advocacy partnerships.
  • Serving as a member of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus.
