Third Generation Washingtonian Has Quickly Risen in Legislative Leadership By Delivering Major Victories for Her Constituents

WASHINGTON — Today the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) PAC, the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization, announced that they are proudly endorsing Washington State Senator Emily Randall in the race for Washington’s 6th Congressional District. HRC PAC is committed to engaging its volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the more than 200,000 Equality Voters in WA-06 in support of Randall and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot.

“In the span of a few terms, Emily Randall has emerged as a force in Washington state fighting for abortion rights, improving health care access, defending democracy and more,” said John Gruber, Human Rights Campaign Director, National Campaigns. “As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, she is poised to serve as an essential voice in what we expect will be a return to a pro-equality majority in the U.S. House after the November election. Her fight for justice and equality during her time in the state legislature is more urgent than ever, and now is the time for LGBTQ+ and allied voters to go to the ballot box and send her to the nation’s capital.”
“Representation isn’t just symbolic,” said State Senator Emily Randall. Having queer and trans people in office – at all levels – saves lives. I am running to be Washington state’s first LGBTQ+ member of Congress and the first-ever LGBTQ+ Latina in Congress, and am thrilled to be endorsed by the Human Rights Campaign. I’m proud of my work to lift up the voices and experiences of our LGBTQ+ community, to strengthen the safety and privacy of trans and nonbinary people, refugees, survivors of domestic violence and those seeking abortion or gender affirming care in Washington state, to make our health care system more equitable and affirming, and to ensure LGBTQ students see themselves in their school curriculum and the books in the library. I will bring this same energy to Congress in advocating for good policy and voting to expand safety, privacy, and equality for all Americans.”

Randall has served in the Washington State Senate since 2018, rising to a position in the chamber’s leadership team as majority whip. Her legislative priorities have included protecting abortion access, expanding Medicaid, and improving apprenticeship programs for high school graduates. She serves on the Senate Higher Education & Workforce Development Committee, the Senate Health & Long-Term Care and the Ways & Means Committee.

HRC’s Commitment to WA-06

Equality Voters, including the more than 200,000 in WA-06, are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of LGBTQ+ equality. Equality Voters are younger, more racially diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties. With this endorsement, HRC PAC will work to engage and mobilize Equality Voters in support of Randall.
