by HRC Staff •

WASHINGTON - Cheryl Spector, a longtime activist in the Washington, D.C., community, passed away this week after a battle with leukemia. Upon hearing of her passing, Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese issued the following statement:

"Cheryl was one of those extraordinary GLBT heroes who, because of her work, made us a visible community. She truly cared about the well-being of her GLBT brothers and sisters and this could be seen throughout her multiple involvements as a community activist. Her presence in the D.C. community will be missed and it is a great loss for us all."

The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against GLBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
