WASHINGTON — Today the Human Rights Campaign PAC (HRC PAC) announced its endorsement of former North Carolina Supreme Court Chief Justice Cheri Beasley for U.S. Senate.

Human Rights Campaign Interim President Joni Madison released the following statement:

“The Tar Heel State needs a Senator that will be a fierce ally to the LGBTQ+ community, and Cheri Beasley is the one. The Human Rights Campaign is proud to support Beasley’s campaign for Senate, and is looking forward to working side-by-side with her to pass key legislation that will advance the lives of North Carolinians and beyond. Cheri Beasley is a trailblazer, and during her time as Chief Justice she worked diligently to ensure accountability across the state. We cannot wait to work with her and her campaign to pass meaningful federal legislation, like the Equality Act, that will protect people across North Carolina and our country.”

Cheri Beasley released the following statement:

“North Carolina should be a safe and welcoming home to all. Throughout my career of public service, I’ve fought hard to ensure the law is applied equally for all North Carolinians – and I will continue to fight for fairness and equality in the Senate. I am proud to be endorsed by the Human Rights CampaignPAC.”

Beasley’s Record as a Champion of Equality

Throughout her life, Cheri Beasley has been a devoted public servant to the people of North Carolina.

From her time working as a public defender in Fayetteville, to becoming the first African American woman to serve as Chief Justice of the North Carolina Supreme Court, Beasley has been a voice of justice for people across the state. As Senator, she will work to ensure the lives of LGBTQ+ and marginalized individuals across the country are protected.

HRC PAC is committed to engaging our volunteers, members and supporters to mobilize the 1.8 million Equality Voters in North Carolina in support of Cheri Beasley and other pro-equality candidates up and down the ballot. Equality Voters are a voting bloc of demographically and geographically diverse Americans who are united by the advancement of equality. Equality Voters are younger, more diverse, and more female than the general electorate, they recognize and trust the HRC brand, and they are more likely to identify with issue-specific organizations than candidates or political parties.

Across the country, HRC works every day to elect pro-equality leaders who support policies that will support the rights and lives of LGBTQ+ people. During the 2020 election cycle, HRC staff on the ground recruited 5,800 individual volunteers nationwide who completed 28,500 hours of voter contact in more than 2,650 volunteer events. HRC engaged in robust digital and online GOTV efforts, including sending over 2.7 million person-to-person text messages, a massive increase from 2018 when approximately 500,000 texts were sent. HRC sent over 2.5 million mail pieces, had over 930,000 phone conversations with voters, and engaged more than 200,000 voters through HRC’s voter dashboard at
