Human Rights Campaign and Nevada Attorney General Ford Condemn Sigal Chattah, Who Called for “Less” Transgender People

"The Latest in a Series of Unhinged, Violent Attacks"

Carson City, NEVADA — Today, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC) — the nation’s largest lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) civil rights organization — and Nevada Attorney General (AG) Aaron Ford condemned Sigal Chattah for her anti-LGBTQ+ hate speech on Twitter. In a tweet, Chattah used an anti-transgender slur and called for “a lot less” transgender people. Chattah is the GOP candidate for Nevada Attorney General.

The Human Rights Campaign PAC endorsed Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford for reelection earlier this year.

Human Rights Campaign Nevada State Director Karl Catarata released the following statement:

“This is just the latest in a series of unhinged, violent attacks from Sigal Chattah. She’s a radical candidate that is spewing nonsense to rile up fringe voters and divert attention away from the issues Nevadans actually care about. She’s running for Attorney General, yet she’s never prosecuted a single case. If elected, she legitimately would not know how to do her job. Chattah is an out of touch, extremist politician who hasn’t put in any effort to understand what’s important to Nevadans. HRC will continue to mobilize Equality Voters in support of Attorney General Ford’s reelection.”

Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford released the following statement:

“Let me be clear: I am a staunch champion of LGBTQ+ equality. It doesn't matter if you've been in Nevada for three weeks or three decades; when you live in the Silver State, you're part of the Nevada Family -- and I will always fight to build an inclusive, empowering future for all Nevadans. At a time when far-right extremists like the Republican candidate for Nevada Attorney General Sigal Chattah and others are attacking our LGBTQ+ community, we need my pro-equality leadership more than ever.”
