Washington– Upon the Hawaii Senate race being called for Mazie Hirono, Human Rights Campaign President Chad Griffin released the following statement:
“It will be a bittersweet moment when Senator Daniel Akaka leaves the United States Senate for well-deserved retirement in January, but we couldn’t be more thrilled that Senator-elect Hirono will be the one taking up his mantle. She’s always been an advocate for equality, she’ll always be an advocate for equality, and we can’t wait to work with her in the coming term.”
The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
