HRC Announces “Unite for Equality Live” National Event, Featuring Remarks from Vice President Joe Biden

by Nick Morrow

The Human Rights Campaign announced that it will host an online national event, “Unite for Equality Live,” on Thursday, September 24. The event, which will replace the Human Rights Campaign’s annual National Dinner this year, will raise funds for the critical fights ahead to protect and expand LGBTQ rights in the United States and around the world.

WATCH:

The event will include the president of the Human Rights Campaign, Alphonso David; HRC-endorsed candidate for President of the United States, Vice President Joe Biden; Golden Globe-award winning actress Annette Bening; Olympic athlete Adam Rippon; supermodel, philanthropist and businesswoman Naomi Campbell; actor and singer Tituss Burgess; writer, director, and producer Lee Daniels; actress, true-crime podcaster, and the voice of Lisa Simpson, Yeardley Smith; actress Dominique Jackson; actor Justice Smith; Grammy Award-winning artist Melissa Etheridge; singer and activist Shea Diamond; Emmy and Tony award-winning actress Cherry Jones; actress and LGBTQ+ activist Nicole Maines; comedian Dana Goldberg and more to be announced.

This has been an unprecedented, unpredictable year, but one that has made clear the vital importance of community and our collective responsibility to fight for the future of our nation. We continue to grapple with our families and friends dying and the Trump-Pence administration’s woefully inadequate response to COVID-19. We have seen and participated in widespread protests against systemic racism and police violence across the country. And now, we are facing an election that has only become more critical after the death of Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Our rights and our democracy should not be debatable or negotiable. We all must unite: for equality, for our democracy, for one another. ‘Unite for Equality Live’ is an opportunity to come together, celebrate our progress, mourn our recent losses, and chart a path forward – a path which must include voting this fall and electing Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

Alphonso David, Human Rights Campaign President
