'We will continue to fight for equal rights and responsibilities for all California families,' said HRC President Joe Solmonese.
WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign made a statement today following the California Assembly vote on Assembly Bill 19, a measure that would extend marriage to California's same-sex couples. By one vote, the Assembly defeated the measure last night.
"We will continue to fight for equal rights and responsibilities for all California families," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "While last night's vote was disappointing, we know that the strongest families are those with the strongest protections, including gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender families. We are committed to working with Equality California to ensure that all Californians and their legislators understand the importance of marriage equality."
HRC and Equality California sent a joint mailing to the combined membership of both organizations as part of a coordinated strategy to engage GLBT and allied Californians to contact their legislators about the importance of this bill.
"We commend the leadership of Equality California in working to protect all GLBT people in the state," added Solmonese.
