Broadway and Television stars take action for marriage equality Rally leading up to possible NY State Senate Vote

WASHINGTON - The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization, is proud to be one of the lead organizers along with Broadway Impact and Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids for the Action = Marriage Equality Rally on Sunday May 17 in Midtown Manhattan. The event will take place on 45th and 6th Avenue from 5-7pm.

Many of New York's Broadway and Television stars are turning out to take action. Appearances are scheduled by Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis, David Hyde Pierce with performances by Audrey McDonald, The Cast of Hair, Cheyenne Jackson, and many more. Also, elected officials scheduled to attend include City Council Speaker Quinn, Senator Duane, Assemblyman O'Donnell, Senator Liz Kruger and many more.

This event is designed to launch thirty-four days of grassroots actions by supporters of marriage equality in New York. Every New York state resident that supports marriage equality for same-sex couples is being asked to contact their State Senator and encouraging them to support the marriage equality bill (S: 4401). On June 20th, the legislative session will end. These thirty-four days would include the rest of the legislative session.

The fate of marriage equality in the state of New York is now in the hands of the New York Senate. Senators need to hear from voters in their district and the Action = Marriage Equality Rally will tell people exactly how they can take action.

HRC has had NYC based organizer Anthony Hayes on the ground since January working side-by-side with Broadway Impact, Marriage Equality New York, and Empire State Pride Agenda.

To find out more about the rally go to www.BroadwayImpact.com. Entrances to the rally will be on 46, 47, and 48th Street on the west side of 6th Avenue.

The Human Rights Campaign is America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality. By inspiring and engaging all Americans, HRC strives to end discrimination against LGBT citizens and realize a nation that achieves fundamental fairness and equality for all.
