HRC Hosts Business Equality Summit in Jackson

HRC held its third annual business summit focused on LGBTQ workplace inclusion in Jackson.

On November 16, HRC held its third annual business summit focused on LGBTQ workplace inclusion in Jackson. Called “The Future of Workplace Inclusion,” the event provided an opportunity for corporate leaders across Mississippi to learn about making the business and economic development case for equality. Participants also learned best practices for ensuring their businesses and organizations are fully inclusive of LGBTQ people.

Baker Donelson Law Firm sponsored and hosted the event. Other sponsors included Sanderson Farms, Entergy Mississippi, Wells Fargo Advisors, Ingalls Shipbuilding, Toyota of Mississippi, the Else School of Management at Millsaps College, RevClaims, Bradley Arant Law Firm and Capital Area Human Resources Association.

The summit began with a presentation from Baker Donelson about the legal landscape for LGBTQ workplace inclusion. During this session, representatives from the firm briefed participants on the current trends and legal standards related to sexual orientation, gender identity and gender stereotypes in the workplace.

Beck Bailey, deputy director of employee engagement of HRC’s Workplace Equality Program, shared presentation on the building blocks to creating a more inclusive workplace. After presenting, Bailey moderated a panel of experts from Wells Fargo Advisors and Baker Donelson, who shared perspectives on implementing  diversity and inclusion efforts and LGBTQ initiatives at their respective organizations.

HRC is looking forward to working with these organizations as they strive to create safe and welcoming work environments for all employees.
