KEY RACES TO WATCH

HRC is focusing on these key candidates who have built strong, pro-equality campaigns. From every corner of the country, these candidates can put a check on the recklessness of the Trump Administration, and push equality forward for the LGBTQ+ community.

Abdul El-Sayed (MI)

Abdul El-Sayed has a history of fighting for equal rights for everyone, including the LGBTQ+ community in Michigan. He has led Detroit’s Ryan White HIV program and partnered with LGBT Detroit to make public health services more open and affirming. Using his public health expertise, he's committed to restoring federal HIV and PrEP funding gutted by the Trump Administration. He is outspoken on trans rights and vows to be a “lion for LGBTQ+ rights” in the Senate.

Peggy Flanagan (MN)

Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan previously earned the HRC PAC’s endorsement during her 2022 re-election campaign. During their tenure, the administration signed key, targeted pro-LGBTQ+ legislation and executive actions including banning the discredited practice commonly known as conversion therapy. Flanagan has pledged to support the Equality Act, landmark LGBTQ+ nondiscrimination legislation, in the U.S. Senate.

Roy Cooper (NC)

As Governor of North Carolina, Roy Cooper has worked to create thousands of new jobs and worked with members of both parties to enact hundreds of bipartisan bills. He succeeded in getting a bipartisan agreement to expand Medicaid and enacted a plan to incentivize hospitals to relieve more than $4 billion of existing medical debt for 2 million eligible North Carolinians and prevent new debt.
