About the HEI 2012 Report
The HRC Foundation, which administered the HEI 2012 in the last three months of 2011, was delighted to secure a 40% increase in participating healthcare organizations. The number of survey respondents rose from 87 in 2011 to 122 in 2012, representing a total of 407 individual healthcare facilities.
This progress was matched by an equally impressive rise in the number of healthcare facilities that achieved the status of Leaders in LGBT Healthcare Equality in the 2012 survey. To achieve Leader recognition, these facilities documented that they met the four foundational criteria for LGBT patient-centered care, known as the “Core Four.” In 2012, 234 of the nation’s healthcare facilities, or 57% of HEI-rated facilities, were designated as Leaders.
