Despite National Political Tensions, Argentina Leads with Record-Breaking LGBT+ Workplace Equality, Impacting 285,600 Employees

BUENOS AIRES — Today, the Human Rights Campaign Foundation (HRCF), in partnership with Instituto de Políticas Públicas LGBT+ released the 2025 HRC Equidad Argentina (Equidad AR) which reveals 93 organizations — including 75 private companies, 16 universities, and two embassies — have implemented inclusive policies benefiting 285,600 employees, a 27% increase from the previous year. Of these 93 organizations, 60 earned the “Mejores Lugares para Trabajar LGBT+ 2025” (“Best Places to Work for LGBT+”) certification for their commitment to creating inclusive and equitable workplaces for LGBT+ employees. Amid political tensions in Argentina, where the national government has actively opposed key principles that drive business, including diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies and LGBT+ rights, Argentine companies are still making remarkable strides in LGBT+ workplace inclusion.

"Even in the face of political resistance to diversity and inclusion in Argentina, businesses are not just holding the line. They are setting the standard. A 13% increase in participation with 45 new organizations joining this year is something to celebrate," said Shawnie Hawkins, Senior Director of the HRC Foundation’s Workplace Equality Program. "It shows that companies in Argentina are stepping up and saying yes to inclusion, yes to equality, and yes to creating workplaces where LGBT+ people can thrive. This kind of progress is not only inspiring, it’s a powerful reminder that when businesses lead with values, everyone benefits."

Key findings from the 2025 report include:

  • Record Growth: Participation increased by 13%, with 93 organizations now part of the HRC Equidad AR program, compared to 82 in 2024.

  • Employee Impact285,600 employees are now covered by inclusive workplace policies, representing a 27% increase from the 224,649 employees reached last year.

  • Expanded Industry Representation: Participating companies span 33 sectors, underscoring the increasing adoption of LGBT+ inclusive practices across diverse industries.

  • International Participation: Companies from 15 countries participated, including Argentina, the U.S., Mexico, Spain, Germany, Italy, and several others.

  • Regional Leadership: Argentina continues to lead the way in Latin America, with 34 national organizations and 45 organizations having a presence in more than two provinces.

  • Certification Excellence60 organizations earned the “Best Places to Work for LGBT+ 2025” certification, reflecting their leadership in fostering inclusive and supportive workplaces for LGBT+ employees.

“This year, despite the multiple challenges and tensions facing diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts both in Argentina and globally, we achieved growth that fills us with pride and hope. The participation of 93 organizations, the incorporation of historically absent productive sectors, and the territorial expansion reaching all 24 provinces of the country demonstrate that LGBT+ inclusion is a real commitment, beyond adverse contexts,” said Onax Cirlini, HRC Equidad AR Implementing Partner. “Seeing internal groups strengthen, training sessions increase, and policies for trans and nonbinary people grow confirms that we are on the right path. Even at a time when DEI efforts are being questioned and defunded in many spaces, this report shows that there are companies, universities, and organizations that continue to choose the path of rights, equity, and dignity for all people.”

“One of the major advances in this edition was the inclusion of 16 national universities in the HRC Equidad AR index. This achievement not only broadens the territorial and federal scope of the measurement, but also reflects the strong commitment of the public university system to building inclusive, safe, and respectful educational spaces for sexual and gender diversity. Universities are key actors in shaping new generations and driving the cultural transformation of our society” said Dolores Covacevich, HRC Equidad AR Implementing Partner. “The fact that we can now measure their policies and support them in this process means opening doors for thousands of students and education workers to be part of institutions where their identities are respected and valued. This progress motivates us to keep moving forward with conviction, because inclusion must be a guaranteed right in every classroom, laboratory, and educational space across the country.”

The 2025 Index Measures Across Five Key Pillars:

  1. Non-discrimination policies and inclusive workplace benefits.

  2. Organizational structures like Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) or Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) councils.

  3. Public visibility and engagement with the LGBT+ community.

  4. LGBT+ training programs for staff and leadership.

  5. Labor inclusion for transgender employees, ensuring equal opportunity and rights.

The HRC Foundation’s Equidad AR program, modeled after the U.S.-based Corporate Equality Index (CEI), continues to serve as the leading benchmark for workplace LGBT+ equality in Argentina. The Equidad AR program is part of the HRC Foundation’s broader Global Workplace Equality Program, which includes similar programs in Mexico (HRC Equidad MX), Chile (HRC Equidad CL), Brazil (HRC Equidade BR), and the United States (Corporate Equality Index – CEI). Together, these initiatives reach over 30.6 million employees worldwide, promoting inclusive policies and practices that benefit the LGBT+ community in workplaces globally.
