Position Summary

The Lead Web Developer reports directly to the Marketing Director and is responsible for the development and maintenance of web-based tools, applications and databases for the Human Rights Campaign’s web sites. This is a mid-level position and is covered by the collective bargaining unit agreement between HRC and the Service Employees International Union.

Position Responsibilities

Utilizing an ASP.NET/SQL Server framework and RedDot Content Management System (CMS), the Lead Web Developer will work as a key member of the web team to develop interactive tools for HRC’s web sites. The Lead Web Developer will be responsible for scoping and building dynamic web tools from the ground up, developing CMS templates, integrating web-based applications via programmatic APIs and coding new web interfaces for existing applications on ASP.NET platform. The successful candidate must be able to thrive as a member of a small team in a fast-paced environment with opportunities to work on diverse projects.

Position Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience is required.
  • 4-7 years experience developing web-based applications on an ASP.NET platform utilizing C# and SQL Server databases preferred.
  • Additional experience in any of the following technologies is highly desirable: Javascript/AJAX-based interfaces; PHP/MySQL/LAMP development; RedDot CMS; Drupal CMS.
  • Experience defining and documenting technical architectures.
  • Experience with XHTML and CSS development, utilizing CSS–only layouts.
  • Experience implementing sites that meet web best practices, including usability, Section 508/Bobby accessibility and SEO standards.
  • Experience with E-commerce and/or web security a plus.
  • Capacity to learn quickly and integrate new technologies; desire to work in a fast-paced environment; team player, and a positive attitude are necessary; ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Passion for using the web as a medium for advocacy and social justice.

All positions at the Human Rights Campaign and/or the Human Rights Campaign Foundation may require travel on a regular basis or periodically. Where the need arises for business travel, appropriate compensation as outlined by the Fair Labor Standards Act will apply.
