Position Summary:

The Major Gifts Officer is a regular, full-time position responsible for the identification, cultivation and solicitation of contributions from major donors and major donor prospects (in coordination with the Director of Major Gifts and the other major gifts officers).

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a program to integrate fundraising cultivation and solicitation into HRC’s major gifts solicitation program (primarily, but not exclusively for donors of $5,000 or more);
  • Work strategically with Boards, Development and Political department staff, other major gift officers, Federal Club co-chairs and Council liaisons to target prospective donors nationwide; responsible for stewardship of donors to HRC;
  • Develop solicitation, stewardship and cultivation strategies for Board, staff and other volunteers to secure major donors and contributions;
  • Assist with fundraising events logistics and support, and other cultivation opportunities within the Development Department;
  • Travel extensively within a portfolio of cities for major donor visits and major donor solicitation,
  • Develop comprehensive plan to include upgrading current donors and identifying and soliciting new donors to meet budgeted goals for each assigned city.
  • Work strategically and creatively to broaden and expand the base of prospective major donors giving to HRC, with an emphasis on employing moves management plans and strategies for each.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum of 3-5 years experience in fundraising with an emphasis in the major donor arena, as well as experience in solicitation of political contributions for federal candidates and/or party committees. Candidates must be well organized, detail-oriented and have a proven experience in securing major gifts. Applicants must be able to prioritize multiple assignments and be able to handle complex tasks in a fast-paced environment. A bachelor’s degree is required. Individuals should have demonstrated proficiency in writing and strong communications skills. In particular, the individual should have public speaking experience or skills, be able to represent HRC in a variety of settings and exceptional strength in the area of donor relations.
