Washington - Today the Human Rights Campaign - the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights organization - released the tenth video of the "New Yorkers for Marriage Equality" campaign. In the most recent video, which comes on the heels of oral argument in the appeal of California's Proposition 8 case, actress and talk show host Whoopi Goldberg joins the cast of iconic New Yorkers in speaking up for marriage equality. The New Yorkers for Marriage Equality campaign, which raises the public profile of marriage equality in the Empire State, can be viewed online at www.hrc.org/NY4marriage.

"As marriage equality takes center stage in California and nationwide, New York remains on the forefront in the fight for fairness," said HRC President Joe Solmonese. "We're excited to have Whoopi Goldberg lend her respected voice and join others - both celebrities and every day New Yorkers - in the call for equality."

The campaign is centered on video testimonials from New Yorkers who support the right of same-sex couples to marry. The ads are running online with possible placement elsewhere when the legislative fight for marriage equality heats up in Albany.

To date, HRC has released videos from Whoopi Goldberg, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Kyra Sedgwick and Kevin Bacon, Fran Drescher, Moby, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Jeanne Moutoussamy-Ashe, Julianne Moore and Kenneth Cole - with more to follow in the coming weeks and months.

An equal marriage bill failed last year by eight votes in the New York state Senate despite having the support of the Governor and being passed in the Assembly. HRC's Campaign for New York Marriage worked to defeat Senators who voted against equality and helped elect fair-minded leaders including Senators-elect Tony Avella, David Carlucci and Tim Kennedy.
