Kavanaugh lied under oath & must be held accountable; Trump-Pence admin will deny same-sex partners of UN employees visas

KAVANAUGH LIED UNDER OATH AND MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE: “No one is entitled to an appointment to the United States Supreme Court. Honesty and integrity are essential qualifications. It is now clear that Judge Kavanaugh has repeatedly provided false testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee and the American people,” said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy (@David_Stacy). “From the start, this confirmation process has been rushed, documents withheld, and the nominee has demonstrated lack of candor and temperament. Enough is enough. The American people deserve better than this. This nomination must be withdrawn or voted down.” More from HRC.

HRC RESPONSE TO NEWS OF ERIC BLANKENSTEIN’S TROUBLING BLOGS: Eric Blankenstein, the policy director at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, once wrote blog posts under a pen name asking if the n-word was “inherently racist” and claimed the majority of hate crimes are hoaxes. Said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy: “It is disturbing that Eric Blankenstein has a history of downplaying hate crimes and racism, and yet is tasked with ensuring Americans are protected from financial discrimination. I don't see how anyone facing credit discrimination could have confidence he'll protect them. This is another example of the Trump Administration's disregard for LGBTQ people and other vulnerable communities.” More from The Washington Post.

AS NC HB 142 ORDINANCE BAN LAWSUIT MOVES FORWARD, HRC CALLS FOR FULL REPEAL: “This ruling made clear that the discriminatory and poorly written HB 142 does not prevent transgender North Carolinians from using restrooms consistent with their gender identity.  Despite this, the law -- and the state -- remain deeply problematic for LGBTQ equality,” said HRC Legal Director Sarah Warbelow. “It remains impossible for city and town governments to protect LGBTQ people from discrimination, including in public accommodations. What is needed and necessary for LGBTQ people is the full repeal of HB 142 and the enactment of statewide protections.” More from HRC.
