HRC’S ROB HILL CALLS FOR MISSISSIPPI’S HATE CRIMES LAW TO INCLUDE LGBTQ PEOPLE: “Under state hate crimes law, Mississippians are not protected on the basis of sexual orientation, gender identity, or disability. Mississippi lawmakers this year had a chance to step up and take action,” writes Hill (@RCH74), HRC Mississippi State Director. “But Mississippi Senate and House leadership refused to bring these bills up for a vote. The politicians who refuse to act to protect us are playing politics with people’s lives.” Read the op-ed from the Clarion Ledger.

BUSINESS LEADERS CONTINUE TO OPPOSE TX “LICENSE TO DISCRIMINATE” LEGISLATION: The Texas legislature has proposed at least 23 anti-LGBTQ bills that seek to discriminate against LGBTQ Texans and their families. Lawmakers in Texas need to listen to the will of the people and the business community by standing strong against Dan Patrick’s attempts to attack LGBTQ Texans. Read more from NPR.

  • HRC volunteers have made nearly 2,000 calls and sent 3,000 texts urging Texans to join the fight against the anti-LGBTQ bills. More from HRC.

TUESDAY TWEET -- DENYING TRANS STUDENTS USE OF CORRECT RESTROOMS PUTS THEM AT GREATER RISK OF SEXUAL ASSAULT: “Bathroom restrictions may make peers aware of the teens' status as a gender minority, the authors explain, which may in turn make them more likely to become victims of abuse. The policies may also be indicators of a hostile school environment,” writes CNN’s Dr. Edith Bracho Sanchez (@DoctoraEdith). Read more from CNN.
