HHS removed HIV/AIDS edu materials featuring condoms from its websites; HRC youth ambassador Nhandi Craig is inspiring LGBTQ youth

HHS REMOVED HIV/AIDS EDUCATIONAL MATERIALS THAT FEATURED CONDOMS FROM ITS WEBSITE: “PrEP alone isn’t enough. We have to use all of the tools in our prevention toolbox to prevent the epidemic of both HIV and STIs,” said J. Maurice McCants-Pearsall, HRC Director of HIV and Health Equity (@McCantsPearsall) on HHS’ decision to erase the need for condoms in the fight against HIV and STIs. “According to the NIH, condoms have a 98% effective rate, if used consistently and correctly. More importantly, we must talk about these tools with our partners.” More from Kaiser Health News.

WAPO’S EUGENE SCOTT (@EUGENE_SCOTT) ON PETE BUTTIGIEG’S HISTORIC CANDIDACY, WHAT’S NEXT FOR LGBTQ VOTERS: “There are 11 million self-identified LGBTQ voters and 57 million ‘pro-equality’ voters who are focusing on LGBTQ issues and vote consistently with pro-equality positions,” said HRC President Alphonso David (@AlphonsoDavid) to The Fix. “We need to make sure that the candidates—and I believe they do—continue to highlight these issues and ensure that they will be fair and equitable and that they advance the principles of equality.” More from The Washington Post.

SCOTUS TO TAKE UP ACA CASE, COULD LEAVE MILLIONS OF AMERICANS WITHOUT ACCESS TO HEALTH CARE: “This case—encouraged and supported by the Trump administration—could gut the ACA and leave millions of Americans without access to affordable health care,” said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy (@david_stacy). “Health care is a basic human right, and in 2020 we must elect a president who will prioritize access to affordable health care rather than reduce it.” More from HRC and The New York Times.

One of the highlights of my life has been the opportunity to sing on the set of @sesamestreet with my new pal, Penelope the penguin. Together, we sang about the possibilities of new friendships with those who may not be exactly like us. I know people are all up in arms about me wearing the gorgeous custom @csiriano tuxedo dress that I wore at @theacademy awards in 2019 for the upcoming season. If you follow me, however, you know the impact it had. The emails, DMs, and messages of good will I received that day (and continue to receive) from parents and their children who have been bullied all over the world and desperately need to see someone like me, being their authentic selves on mainstream media, is far more important than anything #onemillionmoms could ever say. Friendship, kindness and inclusivity shall triumph. And often, it simply starts by saying hi. #sesamestreet #season51 @pbs . . Wearing custom @csiriano Styling by @sammyratelle
