HISTORY - US House includes gender identity & sexual orientation in rules package; LGBTQ entertainers and allies at the Golden Globes

U.S. HOUSE MAKES HISTORY, INCLUDES GENDER IDENTITY & SEXUAL ORIENTATION IN RULES PACKAGE: The new package bans discrimination on the basis of gender identity and sexual orientation for the first time ever, and also ensures that religious headgear can be worn in the House chamber. “This is an historic moment for our country,” said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy (@david_stacy). “This action to protect LGBTQ congressional employees from discrimination is the result of millions of Equality Voters going to the polls in November to ensure their voices were heard and demanding a Congress that looks like America.” More from HRC.

Said attorney Carolyn Wald, “As people are getting more understanding of what it is to be transgender and the types of treatments that are necessary to treat gender dysphoria, I think we’ll see more and more employers, both public and private, looking at making these changes, it’s just common sense.” More from Chicago PBS.

THANK YOU CHAI FELDBLUM FOR YOUR TIRELESS SERVICE ON THE EEOC: Said HRC Government Affairs Director David Stacy. “As a skilled attorney and public servant who has passionately advocated for equality under the law, Feldblum more than deserved to be confirmed for another term. While Senate Democrats fought hard to move her nomination forward and she most certainly would have been confirmed with strong bipartisan support, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell shamefully refused to schedule a vote.” More from Los Angeles Blade.
