DONALD TRUMP’S ATTACKS ON IMMIGRANTS ARE AN ATTACK ON ALL OF US: This morning, President Donald Trump is poised to use executive actions to target immigrants and refugees, including directing federal funding at building a taxpayer funded border wall between the United States and Mexico. Last night, HRC President Chad Griffin (@ChadHGriffin), Planned Parenthood President Cecile Richards (@CecileRichards) and United We Dream Advocacy Director Greisa Martinez (@Grei_sa) joined Lawrence O’Donnell (@Lawrence) on The Last Word to talk about these first actions of the Trump Administration. There are an estimated 904,000 LGBTQ immigrants living in the United States, and at least 267,000 of those immigrants are undocumented. Said Griffin, “We are as diverse as the fabric of this nation. We are women. We are immigrants… We are people of color. We are Muslims. So, an attack on any of us is an attack on on all of us. And our job together is to hold Donald Trump accountable.”

TRUMP CUTS FUNDS FOR FOREIGN NGOS PROVIDING INFORMATION ABOUT ABORTION: On the day after the 44th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, President Trump issued an executive order reinstating the global gag rule barring federal support to foreign non-governmental organizations (NGOs) that use their own non-U.S. funds to provide abortion information, referrals or services.  Also known as the Mexico City policy, the rule was first put in place by President Ronald Reagan and has been rescinded by Democratic presidents only to be reinstated by Republican presidents. It has impeded efforts by health providers to speak freely while counseling their patients, and to address the family planning needs of women throughout the world. Earlier this year, HRC joined 137 other organizations in a statement opposing the global gag rule, and expressing deep concern about the negative impact this will have on families throughout the world. WHAT WE’RE READING WEDNESDAY: Dr. Ximena Lopez is the only pediatric endocrinologist in the only transgender youth clinic in Texas. She also contributed to HRC’s groundbreaking resource “Supporting & Caring for Transgender Children.” Cosmopolitan’s Hannah Smothers (@HannahSmothers_) sat down with the inspirational Dr. Lopez to talk about the critical medical care she provides to transgender youth. “I feel great satisfaction when I meet with these families, how thankful they are for all we're doing, and seeing how the parents appreciate all we do -- it's just an amazing feeling. That's why I became a physician, I like to feel like I'm helping people and this has been, in my entire professional life, the most rewarding experience I've ever had,” Dr. Lopez tells Smothers. ALABAMA CIVIL RIGHTS LEADERS SPEAK OUT AGAINST JEFF SESSIONS: Yesterday in Tuscaloosa, Ala., HRC -- along with the Alabama NAAC; Spectrum, the University of Alabama’s (UA) LGBTQA+ Student Organization, the Hispanic-Latino Association; UA’s Chapter of the Southern Poverty Law Center; and Canterbury Episcopal Chapel -- held a press conference to oppose the nomination of Sen. Jeff Sessions to be the U.S. Attorney General. If confirmed, Sessions would lead the U.S. Department of Justice, which is tasked with the fair and impartial administration of justice for all Americans. As Alabama’s Attorney General, Sessions fought tooth and nail against allowing the LGBTQ student group at the University of Alabama to host a conference discussing issues facing the community. HRC recently released a video on the topic, featuring a student who attended UA and was a part of the group at the time.

FORT WORTH CHAMBER OF COMMERCE SAYS “NO” TO ANTI-LGBTQ BILLS: The Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce, representing more than 2,300 member businesses, is joining the fight against SB6, a harmful anti-transgender bill being considered by the state legislature. “Fort Worth has led the way in non-discrimination policies for almost two decades, which has helped us attract corporate relocations, expansions, skilled talent, conventions and tourists,” Matt Geske, vice president of government affairs for the group, said in a statement. “We must continue to send the message that Texas is a diverse and welcoming state or risk losing billions of dollars and thousands of jobs.” More from The Star-Telegram.
